The Mavs scored single runs in the first three innings of game one which proved to be enough for victory over Crawfordsville Monday at the Mav Baseball Complex. Jackson Lancaster led off the game for the Mavs with a single and then advanced to third on a Zayne Newgent single to right. Lancaster would score on a Jake Winger groundout. In the bottom of the second, Mekyel Almond started the inning with a leadoff triple. Courtesy runner Braxton Leon then scored on a RBI groundout by Brennan Johnson. Reed Grimes went six innings for the Mavs giving up three hits and two runs while striking out five. Wyatt Vaughn earned the save by recoding the final three outs. In game two, the Mavs defeated West Lafayette 7-3. After the Mavs scored a single run in the bottom of the first and two runs in the third, West Lafayette tied the game at three in the top of the fourth. The Mavs would break the game open with a three run bottom of the fifth. Mekyel Almond started the inning with a walk then stole second and would come around to score on a Brennan Johnson double to right. Johnson would move to third after a bunt single by Mason Jones. Braxton Leon would bring home Johnson on a perfectly executed safety squeeze while a Jackson Lancaster single would close the scoring in the inning by brining home courtesy runner Riley Evans. Chance Henderson picked up the win with three and a third solid innings of relief. Henderson gave up three hits and no runs while striking out one without issuing a walk. The Mavs finish the regular season with a 15-11 record and will open postseason play next Saturday when they travel to Kokomo Municipal Stadium to take on Lafayette Jefferson at 1:00 pm.
