Early offense combined with a strong pitching effort resulted in a Mav victory Tuesday night in Oxford. The Mavs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Jake Winger doubled to left and Jonathan Riley drove him in with a single to right. The Mavs would score two more in the top of the second. After walks to Aiden Riser and Jackson Lancaster to start the inning, Zayne Newgent brought home Riser with a single to right and Mason Jones brought home Lancaster with a sacrifice fly to center. Newgent led the way offensively with three hits and two RBI while Riser and Riley each had two hits. Lancaster finished the night with three walks and two runs. Reed Grimes picked up his second win of the season tossing six innings of three run ball. Grimes struck out seven Bison hitters while walking three. Aidan Piechnik tossed a scoreless inning to close out the win in his varsity debut for the Mavs. The Mavs (9-10) return home Thursday for a matchup with the Hamilton Heights Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
