A three run top of the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Mavs (22-4) the lead that they would not surrender on the way to claiming the twelfth sectional championship in school history. The pivotal inning started with one out walks to Riley Evans and Sage Adams. After a fly out allowed Evans to advance to third base and a wild pitch moved courtesy runner Aiden Earley to second base, Logan Marsell delivered a 2-out, 2-RBI single to left field that pushed the Mav lead to 3-1. Jake Winger drove in Marsell with a triple to right centerfield to give the Mavs a 4-1 lead. Winger finished with two hits while Adams, Riley Sands, Aiden Riser all added hits. Sammy Swank walked three times on the afternoon. Owen Smith (7-0) picked up the win with five innings of one run ball striking out six Logansport hitters. Winger entered the game with no outs in the bottom of the sixth with a runner on first and proceeded to record three strikeouts in the frame to prevent Logansport from scoring. In the seventh, Logansport had the bases loaded with two outs before Winger recorded his fifth strikeout in two innings of work to secure the championship for the Mavs. The Mavs now advance to regional play against Westfield. The time and location of the matchup with the Shamrocks is TBD.
