The Maverick Boys Track & Field team gave it their all in a historically fast Sectional meet hosted by the West Lafayette Red Devils. In total, 9 Mavs earned a Regional bid that helped propel McCutcheon to a 4th place overall team finish in Sectional 10! Here's a breakdown of the action: "Mav of the Meet" - Matt Hughes (Sr) was the high point-scorer for the Mavs, earning a Sectional Championship in the 110M High Hurdle (15.22) and the 300M Hurdle (39.95) races! Mr. Hughes was also a fast lap for the 4x400M Relay team that placed 3rd! Matt tallied an impressive total of 26 points. "Championship Vault for Wykoff" - Multi-sport senior, Noah Wykoff tied a personal best of 13' in the Pole Vault to win the Sectional #10 title and move on to next week's Regional! "Middle Distance Relays Showcase Teamwork" - The Mavs' 4x800M and 4x400M relays sped to 3rd place finishes in both of those respective races. Luke Persin (Sr), Andrew Weinman (Fr), Mason Lee (Jr.), & Connor Felty (Jr.) started the meet off in great fashion, racing to a 4x800M time of 8:15.45! The last race of the night featured Matt Hughes (Sr), Kaiden Konkle (So), Connor Felty (Jr) and Kris Kirtz (Sr) who collectively sprinted to a 3:29.15! "Historic 400M Dash" - Senior Kris Kirtz ran an unbelievably fast lap for the Mavs, nearly meeting the state qualifying standard. Kirtz's 49.90 race trailed only the new Sectional Record set by Andres Negron-Carrero of Harrison (48.92). Kirtz followed up this performance by running a sub 48 second split as the anchor for the Regional Qualifying 4x400M Relay. "8-Letter Senior Launches to Regionals" - Senior Jakob Van Pelt, who was recently honored with the prestigious 8-Letter Winner Award Blanket, spun a huge discus throw of 143'4" to secure a 2nd place finish and spot in next Thursday's Jefferson Regional!
