The Mavs (19-2) scored four runs in the first and two more in the second inning to build an early lead on Thursday night en route to a 9-4 win over Northwestern. After Riley Sands scored on an errant pickoff attempt, Jonathan Riley ripped a 2-RBI double to left-center to make it 3-0. Riley advanced to third on a wild pitch before Sammy Swank brought him home with a sacrifice fly. Northwestern cut the lead to 7-4 before the Mavs answered back in the bottom of the sixth. A double by Logan Marsell and walks to Jake Winger and Riley loaded the bases for Swank who bought home a pair with a single to left. Marsell finished the night with three runs scored and two hits. Winger added two runs, two hits, and a RBI. Swank had three RBI while Riley had two. Sage Adams and Mekyel Almond also added a hit a piece. Owen Smith picked up his sixth win of the year going five innings, giving up just one run while striking out four. Aiden Riser earned his second save of the season after striking out three Tiger hitters in 1.1 innings. The Mavs return to action Saturday as they travel to #1 ranked Center Grove for a DH that is scheduled to start at 11:00 am.
