The Mavs (16-2) started the new week with a 1-0 win over Avon on Monday night. Strong pitching was the story of the night on both sides. Jake Winger (3-0) earned the victory for the Mavs going six innings; striking out seven while only issuing a single walk. Avon's biggest threat came in the bottom fourth. The first two hitters of the inning got on base and eventually reached second and third with nobody out. Winger proceeded to get a line out to shortstop Broderick Arnold for the first out and then recorded back to back strikeouts to end the inning. Wyatt Vaughn pitched a scoreless seventh inning to record his third save of the season. Riley Sands led the offensive charge for the Mavs collecting two hits while also stealing three bases. Aiden Riser also collected two hits while Sage Adams and Jonathan Riley both reached base twice. The Mavs return to action on Tuesday at home when they welcome the Benton Central Bison to the Mav Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
