The Mavs (15-1) picked up a 3-1 victory over Carmel Thursday night in front of a great crowd at the Mav Baseball Complex. A Jake Winger home run got the Mavs on the board in the bottom fourth to tie the game at one. The Mavs offense would come alive again in the bottom of the sixth after a leadoff walk by Riley Sands and a double by Logan Marsell put runners at second and third. Sands then scored on a wild pitch and a Jonathan Riley fielder's choice brought home Marsell to give the Mavs a 3-1 lead. After allowing one run in the top of the first, Sammy Swank settled in and retired ten of the last twelve hitters he faced finishing with five strikeouts in five innings of work. Sands (2-1) picked up the win with a scoreless sixth inning. Wyatt Vaughn earned his second save of the season after entering the game with runners on first and second with no body out in the top of the seventh. Vaughn recorded two strikeouts and a ground out to shortstop to secure the victory. The Mavs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Greenfield Central for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
