The Mavs (12-0) won both ends of a DH Wednesday at a chilly Mav Baseball Complex. Game 1 The Mavs got the scoring started in the bottom of the second when Sammy Swank earned a two out walk, Aiden Riser doubled to right field and Mekyel Almond hit a hard ground ball past the third basemen to give the Mavs an early 2-0 lead. That would be all Mav pitching needed as Swank stuck out five in three innings of work and RJ Morrison (2-0) picked up the win with three innings of scoreless relief. A six run bottom of the sixth broke open a tight game and saw eleven Mav hitters step in the box. RBI singles by Riley Sands, Riser, Almond and Riley Evans highlighted the inning. Sands and Riser finished the game with three hits a piece while Evans had two. Game 2 The Mavs never looked back after an eight run top of the second in the nightcap where they were the visitors on the scoreboard. A RBI double by Sage Adams and RBI singles from Riser, Jake Winger, and Blake Morrison highlighted the inning. Mav pitching was once again efficient as they did not issue a walk in the contest. Owen Smith (3-0) picked up the win after striking out three and surrendering two hits in four innings of shutout work. Rylee Piggott pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth to close out the win. The Mavs return to play Saturday as they travel to Cedar Lake to take on Hanover Central. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm ET.
