Opportunistic offense and strong relief pitching led the Mavs (7-0) to a 6-4 victory Tuesday night over Harrison at the Mav Baseball Complex. After Harrison scored a single run in the top of first, the Mavs quickly answered with a big inning of their own highlighted by a 2-out, 2-run HR by Sammy Swank to make it 4-1. After the Raiders tied the game at four in the top of the fourth, the Mavs struck back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. A lead off walk to Riley Sands got the inning started. Sands then advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt. After a Jake Winger HBP, a wild pitch scored Sands and advance Winger to second base. The Raiders intentionally walked Swank to bring up Aiden Riser who delivered a 2-out, 2-strike single to right field to plate the final run of the contest. Owen Smith and Riser did not issue a walk in the contest and minimized the damage in the innings that the Raiders did score. Riser (2-0) picked the win with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief while striking out three. The Mavs travel north Wednesday night for game two of the regular season series with the Raiders. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
