Mavs earn home win over Huntington North

The Mavs (2-0) opened the home slate of their season with a 9-0 victory Friday night over the Vikings of Huntington North. After scoring single runs in the 1st and 2nd, the Mavs broke the game open in the bottom of the 4th scoring three runs. Riley Evans led off the inning with a single and after Riley Sands and Logan Marsell reached base, Jake Winger plated the first run with a sacrifice fly to center field. Sammy Swank followed with a 2-out, 2-RBI single to make it 5-0. Owen Smith (2-0) picked up the win giving up just one hit in five innings of work. Winger and RJ Morrison combined for two innings of scoreless relief. The Mavs return to the Mav Baseball Complex on Saturday as they host the Crown Point Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
