The Mavs (1-0) opened the 2024 season on Saturday with a 4-3 victory over Cathedral at Brunette Park in Indianapolis. The Mavs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, started by a Riley Sands single and followed by a walk to Logan Marsell, Jake Winger reaching on an error, a Sammy Swank HBP and a walk to Aiden Riser. After Cathedral tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the third, the Mavs would go on to score single runs in the fifth and seventh. Mav pitching was strong all day as Swank, Owen Smith and Riser combined for ten strikeouts. Smith picked up his first win of the year by working four innings allowing two hits and one run while striking out four with no walks. Riser earned the save by striking out two of the three hitters he faced. The Mavs return to action Wednesday at 5:30 pm when they travel across the Wabash to take on the West Lafayette Red Devils at Bob Friend Field.
