On Friday, the Mav Golf team competed in the IHSAA Regional at Coyote Crossing GC and walked away with a 6th place team finish and the score 328. The front nine played pretty difficult for players to attack the pins and stay away from trouble around the green. The par 4 6th hole and 7th hole just didn't allow for any mistakes off the tee and still having a shot for a par. After 9 holes, the Mavs were in a good spot moving to the back nine with 3 players sitting in the 30s. Matthew and Phillip both finished with a 37 and Seth Bower had a 39 to pace the Mavs. Moving to the back nine, Matthew was the only one able to hang on and stay in the 30s with a 38. Bunkers were water-logged and tough to get on the green. As a team, we were 12 strokes short of moving onto the state finals. The coaching staff has to acknowledge just how hard this team has worked to put McCutcheon golf on the map. This was a loaded regional and we just came up short on Friday. Matthew Oakley does advance to the state finals with a 5th place individual score of 75 on the day. We are excited for Matthew to experience golf on the state's biggest stage at Prairie View GC in Carmel on Tuesday and Wednesday.
