The Mavs jumped out to an early lead and used a big inning late to secure a victory over Benton Central on Tuesday at the Mav Baseball Complex. The Mavs struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Jonathan Riley opened the action with a ground-rule double to center field. Riley came around to score on an RBI hit from Sammy Swank. The offense stayed active in the second inning as Hunter Reagan drew a walk before Landon Taylor delivered a ground-rule double. Jonah Fritchley then brought home Reagan and courtesy runner Jacoby Kas to extend the lead to 3-0. Fritchley paced the Mavs offensively with three hits and two RBI, while eight different players recorded hits in the win. On the mound, Taylor tossed 3.2 innings of one-run baseball. Reed Grimes closed the door in the seventh inning, earning the save with two strikeouts and a pop out on just 10 pitches. The Mavs return to action Thursday when they travel to Hamilton Heights for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
