The Mavs (11-6) scored nine runs in the first two innings, building a lead they would not surrender Thursday at the Mav Baseball Complex. All five Maverick runs in the bottom of the first came with two outs. Brodyn Sharp put the Mavs on the board with an RBI single that scored Jonah Fritchley. A single by Jackson Lancaster, a double from Rhett Clarkson and a single by Mekyel Almond each drove in runs during the inning. The Mavs used the long ball in the bottom of the second when Sammy Swank and Jake Winger hit back-to-back homers to give the Mavs a 9-2 advantage. The Mavs added more two-out damage in the bottom of the fourth. After Swank led off the inning with a double, Lancaster followed with a two-run homer to extend the Mavs’ lead to 11-3. Lancaster finished with three hits and three RBIs, while Swank added two hits and three RBIs to lead the Mavs offensively. Winger picked up his third win of the year on the mound, pitching six innings while allowing six hits and three earned runs. The senior right-hander struck out five and walked two. The Mavs return to action Friday when they travel to Fishers to take on the Tigers at 6:30 p.m.
