Late rally comes up short for Mavs

The Mavs pushed across five runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell short of completing the comeback Thursday night at the Mav Baseball Complex. North Central used two big innings to build an early lead they would not surrender. In the seventh, the Mavs hit three home runs. Sammy Swank started the rally with a two-run shot to center, followed by a solo homer to left from Jake Winger. After a single by Brodyn Sharp, Jackson Lancaster added a two-run blast to right-center to cap the scoring. Rhett Clarkson singled, and Mekyel Almond and Deacon Anthrop drew walks to load the bases, but the Mavs could not push across any more runs. The Mavs’ homestand continues Saturday, when the Western Panthers visit for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
