Mavericks News · SAOTW – Caroline Kessler & Joseph Phinisee

Congratulations to senior guard, Joe Phinisee, and junior dancer, Caroline Kessler, as they have been named our American Family Insurance Ashlie Adsit McCutcheon Student-Athletes of the Week!

Joe, a 4-year letter winner, is an incredibly hard-working leader for the McCutcheon Basketball program.  Joe’s steady court leadership combined with his high-flying scoring ability has the Mavs riding a 7 game win streak!  Last Friday, Joe helped lead the Mavs (14-2) to a big 88 – 73 NCC home win over the Marion Giants (10-7).  In the contest, Phinisee led all scorers with his 33 pt (15-26 FG) performance.  The Mavs are currently 7-0 and in first place in the North Central Conference.  Phinisee and the Mavs have two more NCC games left on the schedule, at Muncie Central (Fri 2.19) and at Anderson (Tues 2.23).

Joe also takes care of business in the classroom, where he carries a 3.04 cumulative GPA.  Outstanding job, Joe, and good luck the rest of this season!

Caroline, a junior dancer on the McCutcheon Dance Team (MDT), has had a tough Winter Season.  Back in November, Caroline was hospitalized with a viral infection that left her in intensive care at Riley’s Hospital for weeks.  It has been a rough few months for the Kessler’s, but in true MAVERICK fashion, the MDT community wrapped their arms around Caroline and the Kessler family to show them much-needed love and support during their difficult time.  All of the kind thoughts and prayers worked because Caroline is on the mend and was able to be in attendance for Friday’s MDT performance at the McCutcheon v Marion Basketball game. Caroline’s heart, passion, and dedication to everything McCutcheon is inspiring.  Head Coach, Brittany Gray, has stated, “Everything that we have done and will continue to do this season is dedicated to her!”

Despite her continued battle with illness and recovery, Caroline is still taking care of business in her digital classwork where she currently carries a lofty 3.86 cumulative GPA!

Excellent work by these student-athletes on the hardwood!  Keep up the great work and keep representing your teams with Positivity – Respect – Integrity – Determination – Empathy!
