Sophomore volleyball standout, Chloe Chicoine, was recently invited to train as part of the 20-player US Girls Youth National Volleyball Team. The prestigious honor is one of many that the Lady Mavs spiker has earned in the past year. While this offseason has been anything but normal, Chicoine has continued to humbly go about improving her skills and athleticism. We caught up with the talented outside hitter/libero, who PrepDig Volleyball recently listed as the top Indiana prep recruit for the class of 2023!
How did you get notified about earning the roster spot?
I was notified about two weeks before the official roster came out that I had made the team over email. It came with an evaluation of my tryout, along with an evaluation of my strengths and weaknesses.
Do you know any of the other girls or coaches on the team?
Yes, my coaches will be Keegan Cook (head coach at the University of Washington), Alyssa D’Errico (associate head coach at Dayton), Trent Kersten (head coach at San Jose State University), and Jon Wong (assistant coach at Texas Tech). There are lots of talented girls on the team, but I know Caroline Jurevicius, Nya Bunton, and Harper Murray the best. However, I am the only player from Indiana to make the roster!
What excites you most about training with the US National Youth Volleyball team?
I’m most excited about the opportunity to train and compete with the best athletes and coaches around the country at the highest level. It will be exciting to meet new amazing athletes and people, in general. I also am excited about the opportunity to help myself grow as a player and a person. I am also looking forward to playing internationally if COVID-19 allows.
Anyone that you would like to shout-out or thank after receiving this honor?
