The McCutcheon Boys Golf team prepared and served a meal May 4 at the Lafayette Urban Ministry Homeless Shelter. Students baked ham and turkey sandwiches on Hawaiian bread and cut fresh strawberries to top a cup of vanilla yogurt. The group served about 20 guests who sought emergency shelter for the evening.
This is the third year the team has served at the homeless shelter. Coach Josh Frauhiger says it is now an important team tradition.
Senior Spencer Craft says serving at the shelter has been an eye-opening experience for him and his teammates. “It really shows how lucky we are to be able to go out and play golf, instead of worrying about having food for that day, or a roof over our head that night,” says Spencer. “It always feels great to do something good for someone else, and I believe the trip makes us stronger as a team.”
